ROY W. SCOTT

1939 - 2010 Roy W. Scott, age 71, Spring Hill, passed away suddenly July 25, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital from a short, complicated illness. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Bruce Funeral Home in Spring Hill with services immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Kansas Chapter of The American Diabetes Association . Mr. Scott was born on May 2, 1939, in Ozark, Mo., to Calvin and Mildred Scott. He met Frankie, his wife of 42 years, while working in California. Eventually, Roy took a job with Western Union and they were then married in Miami, Okla. He continued working for Western Union for over 30 years during which time he was transferred to the Kansas City office and soon settled at their home in Spring Hill. Roy enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting in his spare time, but mostly enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and just spending time with his family and friends. Most recently Roy greatly enjoyed spending time with his coffee shop buddies. He often said that he was fortunate to have found this family to love, but his family says that they are the ones that were blessed to have had him as their husband and dad, and he accepted them as his own. Roy truly never met someone he did not like. He made good friends throughout his life, including co- workers, neighbors, others that he met after his retirement, and recently while at home fighting a courageous battle against complications from diabetes. Friends and family attest to the fact that they never saw Roy in a bad mood. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin. Survivors include his wife, Frankie, of the home; one daughter and her spouse, Terry and Tom Tepesch of Olathe; three sons and their spouses, Michael and Elaine Cooper of Simi Valley, Calif., Douglas and Debra Cooper of Olathe, and Gary and Robin Cooper of Shawnee; his mother Mildred, of Oildale, Calif.; one brother, Walter, of Oildale; one sister, Ann of Los Angles, Calif. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Kendra, Brett, Scott, Nicholas, Jeff, Ryan, Spencer, and Austin; and four great-grandchildren, Connor, Logan, Shelby, and Emma. Roy will be greatly missed and will be in our thoughts and prayers forever. Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210 (913) 451-1860.
