Roy Vance, 93, died peacefully on October 25, 2013. Born to Amanda and Walter Vance on April 12, 1920, Roy had an older sister Doris and a younger brother Leon. He grew up in Parsons, KS, where he graduated from high school, and then junior college. Throughout his youth, he enjoyed playing the trumpet and coronet in several jazz bands. He attended the University of Arkansas.
Roy was a veteran of WWII and proudly served in the Navy. As a Navy pilot he flew cargo and transport aircraft.
Roy married the love of his life, Betty Taylor, in 1945. They were married 55 years before she died in 2000. After 38 years working for Southwestern Bell Corporation, he retired in 1984 to enjoy traveling and spending time with his family. Roy was the loving patriarch of his family. He also was active in Lion's Club and Asbury United Methodist Church, and loved to fish, camp, and be outside in nature.
Roy's great passions were his family, aviation, traveling, and music (jazz, big bands and he loved to dance). His favorite times were when surrounded by his family, whom he greatly loved. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was positive, gentle and a true gentleman in every way. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, generosity to charities, and his love for life. We will miss his quick smile and kind heart. "Keep smiling", as he always said. He was blessed with 93 years to enjoy those in his life for whom he cared so much.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, and sister.
Roy will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Linda (Charles) Pate, Maryland Heights, MO, and Jill (Lon) Seglie, Leavenworth, KS; four grandsons, Bradley and Brandon Marshall and Scott (Zhanna) Seglie and Nicholas Seglie; and two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Brynn Marshall. Roy is well loved and lived well.
