Russell D. Folken, age 74, of Osawatomie, KS passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 7th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 A.M. Thursday at the chapel prior to the service. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the ASPCA.
Russell was born on February 3, 1935 in North Platte, NE to Heio Ernst Folken and Mary Catherine Trimble. He married Jennie M. Gordon on April 28, 1961 and together they had 3 children; Jeff, Mary Ann and Ed. Russ was an electrician with the FAA for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he served as President for one year. Russ was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jennie, of the home; one brother, Raymond Folken of North Carolina; son, Jeff Folken; daughter, Mary Ann Floerke (Eddie), all of Kansas; son, Ed Folken (Angie) of Missouri; granddaughters, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Cassidy; and 2 pets, “Wendy” and “Buddy”. Russ was a devoted husband and father. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
