Ruth E. Burns (1910-2008)

Ruth E. (Eastham) Burns, 97, died July 22, 2008 after a long illness.

She was born in Warrensburg, MO, on December 26, 1910 to Nettie Myrtle (Reynolds) Eastham and William Leroy Eastham. Ruth was a graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO. She began a 49-year long marriage to Charles Edgar Burns by eloping in 1934. He was founder and CEO of Farris-Burns Corporation. During World War II they moved to Tyler, TX, and then later lived in Kansas City, MO, Prairie Village and Leawood, KS. Since April 2006 she resided at Garden Terrace in Overland Park. She was known for her zest for life, great love of family, life-long friends, curiosity, spirit of adventure, and refined taste. She loved spending time with her grandsons whom she adored. She is remembered lovingly for the many family holidays and celebrations and her joy of cooking. She became a confirmed member of the Village Church after moving to Prairie Village in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, Charles E. Burns, and later in life, her fianc? Harold ?Bud? Edgell who died in 2001. She is survived by her son C(harles) Patrick Burns (Janet) of Hilton Head Island, SC, sister Olive Baucom (Raymond) of Boulder CO, grandchildren C(harles) Geoffrey Burns (Caroline) of Boston, MA, and Scott Patrick Burns (Meredith) of Nashville, TN and her great granddaughters Lilyanne Ruth Burns, and Charlotte (Charley) Caroline Burns who are named in honor of their great grandparents.

A private service celebrating her life will be held at the Village Church at a later time. Memorial contributions may be given to the Village Church in lieu of flowers.
