Ruth Hanssen

Ruth M. Hanssen of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on October 1, 2011. She was born in the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas to Fanny, a homemaker and Harry E. Lansdon, a switchman for the Kansas City Southern Railroad on July 4, 1917. She attended J. Fiske School, and graduated from Argentine High School in 1935. After completing secretarial school she worked at Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co. in 1945, the American Walnut Company in
1950 and ADM Milling Co from 1977 to 1996. Ruth was married to Richard N. Heatherton from 1942 to1960, then married to Richmond D. Hanssen on August 25, 1962 until his death in 1975. She was a member of Cherokee Christian Church, Prairie Village, Kansas and volunteered as a Red Cross Gray Lady at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO in 1972. Ruth was a skilled bridge player plus an avid reader who was warm and funny with her quick smile and dry sense of humor. She loved her family, cherished her friends and will be missed by those she leaves behind.

Ruth is survived by her daughter and son in law, Harriet Ann and Brian J. Pintenich of Olathe, Kansas; son Raymon L. Hanssen and his partner Greig Common of San Francisco, CA; granddaughter and her husband Pamela and David Long; and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Shelby Long of Haines, Alaska.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:00-7:30 pm at D.W. Newcomer's Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, October 11, 2011 with burial to follow in Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Greater Kansas City American Red Cross, 211 Armour Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111; Wayside Waifs Humane Society, 3901 Martha Truman Road, Kansas city, MO 64137; or The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas 64104.
