Ruth Pianin

February 1, 1931 — January 21, 2008

Ruth Pianin of Leawood, Kansas passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House, of pancreatic cancer.

Ruth was born Feb. 1, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from Newark Public Schools and then attended Trenton State University, graduating in 1952. After teaching for 3 years in Elizabeth, New Jersey, she attended Duke University receiving a Masters? Degree in Teaching, majoring in history and English.

Before moving to Kansas in 2003 to be near her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, Ruth taught English in the South Orange-Maplewood School District in New Jersey for 40 years. During her retirement years, Ruth volunteered with the American Red Cross to translate classic literature into Braille for books for the blind. Her hobbies included piano playing, for which she earned certificates and trophies, of which she was quite proud.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph, her son Robert Cooper, daughter-in-law, Kelly and her grandsons, Francis and Dylan, a step-daughter, Deborah Ferenc and 2 step-granddaughters, Stephanie and Chelsey.

Visitation will be 1:00 ? 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 23 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Entombment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Indoor Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Deanna Rose Children?s Farmstead or to American Red Cross.
