Sallie Jo Norton, 77, passed away Wednesday April 20, 2016 at her home. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. Entombment will follow the service and a reception immediately after. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Williams Fund Scholarship, 1651 Naismith Dr., Lawrence, KS 66045.
Sallie was born Sept. 21, 1938 in Wichita, KS to Ross and Evelyn Little. She is survived by her beloved children: Son, Brad; Daughter, Heather (Wife, Tamara), and four Grandchildren, Kayleigh, Ben, Julie, Nick and Great Grandson, Cohen.
She was loved for her mischievous smile and sparkling brown eyes. She was friendly to all she met and had friends everywhere.
Sallie attended the University of Kansas. She pledged Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and was pledge president, board member, and an alumni officer. Sallie was a lifelong KU alumni and Williams Fund member. Sallie was an avid supporter of her ‘Boys in Blue’, the KU men’s basketball team. She was a long time season ticket holder and never missed a game in Lawrence or on TV! In 2011, Sallie took her family to the Maui Invitational Basketball tournament and flew with her ‘Boys in Blue’ on the team plane. She was also a great supporter of charitable basketball events.
Sallie was an avid golfer and was a member of Crestview Country Club in Wichita, Alvamar in Lawrence, and Brookridge Country Club in OP for over 35 years. She was a member of the Women’s Golf Association of Kansas City and participated in the Ronald McDonald Golf Classic and other charity golf events.
Sallie loved to garden and decorate her home. She enjoyed travelling and her favorite was taking her children and grandchildren to Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge in Minnesota. The family spent many fun filled summer weeks together, making lifelong friends and precious memories.
