Samantha Zech

With deep sadness, we need to share the passing of our daughter, Samantha Michelle Zech (Sam).

Sam passed away on May 20th, just after 9 pm. She was in no pain and passed peacefully in the presence of family and friends. We are grief-stricken but are taking comfort in that she is no longer suffering.

Sam was born on January 21st, 2000, in Kansas City, Missouri, at Research Hospital and is survived by her mother Stephanie, father Tim, brother Cory and his wife Kara, her nephew Tydus and niece Valerie, step-father Shawn, and her cat Patricia Marie.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 24th, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Johnson County Funeral Chapel.

Instead of flowers, please donate in her name to Girls on the Run KC or a charity of your choice to honor Sam's dedication to the service of others.

Sam and her sorority sisters adopted a team of girls near Rockhurst and obtained annual sponsorship from several local businesses to get the girls running clothes, sports bras, and running shoes. When she met them, they ran in school uniforms (khakis and polo's) and non-athletic shoes. If you knew Sam, then you know there is no way she would allow that situation to stand. She jumped in and did what it took to help others. That is who Sam was, caring deeply about others, taking it to the next level when attending Rockhurst University, embracing the Jesuit tradition of service, and pursuing a degree in nursing.

Twenty-one years is not a long time, but Sam lived her life out loud. Besides her passion for service, Sam loved to exercise, running, sports, and travel. She ran a marathon, did triathlons, traveled to the Galapagos, and drank Rosé all day in Paris.
