Dr. Samuel Jones Jr.

August 3, 1937 — April 13, 2017

Dr. Samuel Meigs Jones Jr. passed away on April 13, 2017. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 3, 1937. He graduated from Pembroke Country Day School in 1955 and went on to graduate from Stanford University in 1959 where he played on the football team and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He then graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City Dental School and practiced dentistry for over 50 years. During his young adult days he was active in many other areas including coaching, volunteering and radio broadcasting.  He is a past president of Mission Hills Country Club, the Kansas City Dental Association Study Club, and the Kansas City Golf Association. Meigs played a little bit of golf over the years and had the definitive read on every putt on every green at MHCC - every putt. He also was involved in lots of other stuff, but this is already way longer than what he wanted. He was a great Dad and a wonderful Grandfather and enjoyed traveling to Austin and Denver to spend time with his family. He was very proud of all of his Grandchildren, and his adopted grandchildren, nephews, nieces, etc. He is survived by his wife Patricia R. Jones of Kansas City; daughter Kimberly A. Lacy of Eudora, Kansas; Son and daughters-in-law: S. Meigs Jones III and Jennifer S. Jones of Austin TX, and Robert R. Jones and Elizabeth V. Jones of Centennial CO; Grandchildren: Meigs Clark Jones, Lyndsey Allison Jones, Christopher Ryan Jones, Jackson Robert Jones and Abigail Elizabeth Jones; Nephews: Peter Martin and Craig Buecker; Sisters: Jan Jacobus of Anaheim CA and Elizabeth Anne Forrest of Berkeley CA; and his adored golden, Summer. He and his family are grateful for the blessings of all the wonderful caregivers that have helped us over the past couple of years at Saint Luke’s Heart Institute, and especially Misty Looking Horse and her team at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. Donations may also be made to a bartender at Kelly’s in Westport - next time you happen to find yourself there, have one or three in Meigs’ honor. A memorial service will be held on May 20, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS.
