SARAH CLARECE SAWYERS SMITH
Clarece lost her battle to cancer on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at KU Medical Center. She was surrounded by her daughter, Terri; immediate family; and her closest friends.
Clarece was born in Mirable, Missouri on November 17, 1929 to Noma and Clyde (C.D.) Sawyers. She grew up in Northwestern Missouri and moved to Saint Joseph, Missouri in 1943. She graduated from Benton High School and went on to receive her teaching degree from Northwest Missouri University. Her 44 year teaching career began in Cameron, Missouri and she graciously retired from Central Elementary School in Olathe, Kansas.
She married Dr. Roger Smith in 1952, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Terri Seann. Clarece is survived by: daughter Terri Allred and her husband Mark. Grandchildren: Krista Cox (L.J.); Shaun McMahon (Amanda); and Lindsey McMahon. Great Grandchildren: Lauren, Kinsey, Aedan, Reagan, Noah, and Olivia. Her loving sisters: Marcha Pipes (Don); Carolea Beaumont (George). Nephew: Bruce Pipes. Nieces: Jill Rocksund (Dan); Marsee Goldstein (Bob); Susan Kerr (Troy); Julie Carey (Joe). Great Nieces and Nephews include: Gunnar, Tait, Brandon, Shaina, Regan, Rachel, James, and Tommy.
Clarece lived life to it's fullest. She loved being with her sisters and spending time with family and friends. Her love of travel sent her around the world. She continued to maintain her active lifestyle with life-long friends of the Dental Group and Teachers. To describe her best…Clarece was beautiful, intelligent, classy, poised, genuine, and fun.
Memorial services will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, Kansas 66224.
