Shalini Gavankar M.D.
Dr. Shalini Gavankar, 81, a resident of Overland Park Kansas lost her battle with cancer on Sunday July, 23rd 2017. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family and friends. A reception to honor her life will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 27th, 2017 from 6 – 8 PM. Dr. Shalini Gavankar was born August 24th, 1935 in Mumbai India to Dr. Shripad Ugrankar and Savithri Ugrankar. Dr. Shalini Gavankar attended medical school in Mangalore India where she met her husband, Dr. Sharad Gavankar in 1960 and they have been happily married for 53 years. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Dr. Shalini Gavankar began practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Mumbai, India. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1980. Once in the US, Dr. Shalini Gavankar completed a Psychiatry residency at the University of Kansas Medical School. She practiced psychiatry until her retirement in 1998.
Dr. Shalini Gavankar is survived by her husband, Dr. Sharad Gavankar; sisters: Srikala Savkoor, Dr. Satish Ugrankar (Shilpa) and Sunita James (Ranveer); children: Shobha Gardi (Frank) of Olathe, Kansas and Dr. Sandeep Gavankar (Tricia) of Apex, North Carolina. She also has three grandchildren whom she dearly adored, Gabriel Gardi, Anastasia Gardi and Marysa Gavankar.
Along with her passion for medicine and helping people, she also lived life to the fullest. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her large extended family. She also loved to travel and went on multiple trips around the world accompanied by her family and friends. She was a huge fan of KU basketball, Wimbledon and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dr. Shalini Gavankar had a very strong faith and was a member of Hindu temple in Shawnee, Kansas. She was also a champion and contributor for many charities locally and abroad.
