Sharon E. Schmidt

Sharon E. Schmidt, 81, of Kansas City, KS passed away October 30, 2021 at Advent Health Shawnee Mission following a brief illness. She was born July 20, 1940 in Kansas City, MO to Margaret (Orr Hitschler) and Thomas Elliott. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School, Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Clyde E. Schmidt, her older brother Thomas Elliott and her parents.

Sharon is survived by her children Shauna Starostka, Julianna (Patrick) Caffrey and Terence Schmidt.  She also leaves her 3 grandchildren Nicole (Marquis) Schmidt Manuel, Jessica (Xavier) Martinez and Philip (Sergio Carrasco) Starostka, as well as 9 great grandchildren.  Her steadfast companion of the last 13 years, her dachshund Jelly Bean, survives her as well.

Sharon was a homemaker until her children were in high school, and then she returned to work at H.D. Lee Jeans/Vanity Fair as a sales representative. Sharon made many close friends at Lee Jeans and continued to be in touch with several of them until her death.  Sharon loved spending time with her family, playing slot machines at the casinos, quilting, knitting, camping, fishing, tole painting and was an avid reader.  She blessed each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with a quilt that she made especially for them.

Sharon was never one for large crowds or being the center of attention and did not want a service, despite that there will be a small private service, for family and her close friends, on Friday November 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Johnson County Funeral Chapel 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.
