Sharyn J. Gassmann, 61, of Overland Park, succumbed to a long term illness on Wednesday, December 17, 2008.
She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and close friends. She leaves behind her loving sons, James and Jeff Gassmann and her granddaughter Lillian M. Gassmann. She was the loving wife of the late O. George Gassmann, a beloved sister to the late Patricia L. Miller, and the beloved daughter of Geraldine "Gerry" (Gallego) Miller and the late Franklin S. Miller of Somerset, MA. She is also survived by three aunts, Gwen Cassidy and her husband of Fall River, Jennie Dion and her husband Camille of San Jose, CA and Doris Miller of Providence, RI: and by numerous cousins from Maine, MA, TX, CA and CT.
Sharyn graduated from Somerset High School, Class of 1965; Framingham State University and Kansas State University where she obtained her Master's in Education specializing in Food and Consumer Science. She was a teacher for 41 years, 3 years at Somerset Public Schools, 33 years at Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and more recently 5 years at Shawnee Mission Public Schools. She was well known for her unmatched dedication to her profession and her students and for her unparalleled skill at her craft. She enjoyed a wonderful, full life with her late husband O. George Gassmann, her sons, family and friends. She loved musical theatre, National Parks, traveling, candy and the finer things in life. She will be dearly missed.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Calling Hours on Monday evening 6-8 p.m. at D.W. Newcomers & Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS. Services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel, 13601 W. 92nd St. Lenexa, Kansas. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.
