Shirley Ming Chang-Divadeenam, age 34, Prairie Village, Kansas passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at her home, losing her battle with depression. A celebration of her life will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9th at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens will follow the service. A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel. Dr. Chang-Divadeenam was born August 18, 1974 in Seattle, Washington. She was raised in San Diego by her loving parents and was later educated at R.P.I. and Albany Medical College. She practiced internal medicine since 1998, and was a brilliant and compassionate doctor to her many patients. She met Krishna, her caring husband, in medical school and they were united in marriage at Powell Gardens on May 26, 2002. Shirley was baptized in May of 2002 at Emmanuel Chinese Baptist Church. Shirley was a dedicated and loving mother to her two young daughters and a wonderful blessing to all who had the great privilege of knowing her.

Shirley is survived by her parents, Ching Ten Chang and Yu Ling Chang. She is also survived by her husband, Krishna Divadeenam, and two daughters, Rowan Audrey and Jillian Paige. Other family members mourning her loss include Mundrathi, Vijaya and Asha Divadeenam, Paul, Rachel, and Iris Dew, and Elaine Chan Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to “Pathway to Hope”, a charity devoted to those struggling with mental illness.
