Shirley Ann Kimes passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2018, at the age of 83. Born Shirley Ann Johnson, to Forrest and Florence Johnson on February 4th, 1935 in Kansas City Missouri. Alongside her brother Don, Shirley was born into a family of strong faith; a faith that she maintained throughout her life, belonging to multiple churches and remaining active within the Kansas City Christian community.
In 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life, Karl William Kimes. This union a would soon become a family in the addition of two children; Karen Sue, and Charles Robert. Although preceded in death by her parents, brother, and beloved husband, Shirley remained a dedicated mother and grandmother to her younger kin, while simultaneously devoting herself to her work in the church.
However, the true test of her faith would come in her later years. Diagnosed with the unforgiving illness known as Parkinson’s disease, Shirley remained steadfast and her faith unwavering, continuing to extol the virtues of the bible, while keeping an active presence within the lives of her loved ones. Moved by her display of bravery, perseverance, and inner strength in the face of such adversity, her family remained close by her side throughout the progression of her illness.
Shirley’s courageous battle ended on the night of June 25th, 2018. She survived her family: daughter Karen Kimes Kolozs, son Charles Robert Kimes, and grandchildren Aarica, Kevin, and Jaclyn.
