Shirley Walden

November 9, 1925 — September 23, 2017

Shirley Jean Walden, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend transitioned peacefully at home on September 23th, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born on November 9th, 1925 to Walter & Sarah Farmer.

Shirley was a home-maker and a secretary for Asbury United Methodist Church and Midwest Corrugated.

A longtime resident of Kansas City, Shirley was also a snowbird for many years. She split her time between Kansas, Lake of the Ozarks and Phoenix, Arizona, where she enjoyed the company of many friends and neighbors.

Shirley lived an active and adventurous life…she visited the Holy Lands at 40, started scuba diving at 55, swam 100 laps each day in her Arizona pool into her 70s, climbed castle steps in Germany at 85 and walked the beach in Mexico at 90. She loved to travel and was able to see much of the World with her family and the love of her life, Gene Walden, who preceded her in death after 62 years of marriage. Also preceding her were her parents, Walter and Sarah Farmer and her Son-in-Law, Greg Jones.

Shirley is survived and remembered with love by her children, Sue Jones, Diane Steeves, Dan Walden (Dana) and Cindy Robinson, 10 grandchildren and spouses: Jaime Frizzell (Pete), Ashlee Boyd (Scott), Scooter Jones (Kara), Angie Steeves, Brooke Viola, Trevor Steeves, Cherie Cell (James), Beth Miller (Ted), Drake Walden and Drew Walden. She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Shirley loved to quilt, sew, play bridge, read, craft and create outlandish and hilarious Christmas gifts for her adoring grandchildren. She loved to laugh, tease and have fun. And, the relationship she had with her great-grandchildren was beyond special. They brought so much joy to her life.

Shirley’s life was filled with deep love, laughter, worldly travel and crazy fun. She was blessed by health, prosperity and spirit…but most importantly – she loved and was loved.

Shirley's Celebration of Life will be private.
