Shirley Ann (Scott) White was born in New Hampton, MO on December 27,1929 to George and Mary Scott, the last of 10 children. Shirley graduated from New Hampton High School and attended business school in Kansas City. Shortly after her move to Kansas City, she met her future husband William D. White. Bill and Shirley were married in Kansas City on December 30, 1949. Much of her life was devoted to raising their five sons. Family was always the highest of importance to Shirley. Whether it was attending family gatherings or hosting family at her house in Overland Park, Shirley always made others feel cherished. Many late nights were spent in the famous "Scott conversations", resulting in plenty of laughter, tears and hoarse voices. Shirley was a past member of Valley View Methodist Church and the Overland Park Lioness Club. She worked at The Sun Publications and as a crossing guard at Pawnee Elementary School. Shirley passed away on December 1st, following a long battle with Alzheimers.
Preceding Shirley are her husband of over 50 years, brothers and sisters, Dorland, Maxine, Kathleen, Edwin, Erwin, Verl, Kathleen, Margaret. Shirley is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws David and Beverly White of Overland Park, KS, James (Terry) and Nancy White of Ottawa, KS, Lawrence White of St. Louis, MO, Richard and Kristy White of Leawood, KS and Timothy and Rita White of Omaha, NE, as well as grandchildren Rob and Crystal, Laurie Ann, Alec, Jarod, Jeff and Jessica, and great grandchildren Jaxon, Dalton, Brynn and Gavin and her sisters Mary Frances McMillan and Mona Lee Selby.
A Celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, December 4th at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. A visitation will be held two hours prior at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
