Stanley Slagg

Attorney Stanley Dunbar Slagg, 82, passed away on October 11, 2013. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS. The family will greet friends from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.
Attorney Slagg was born July 17th, 1931, in Edgerton, WI and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1949, where he was president of his sophomore class. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1953, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He also received a commission at the University of Wisconsin as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Military Policy Corps.
Lieutenant Slagg entered active duty in the U.S. Army in 1954. His last assignment was Commander, 205th MP Co. MP/AP Detachment Fort Leavenworth and Kansas City. Upon discharge he joined the 418th Civial Affairs Company, U.S. Army Reserve, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Judge Advocate, Army of the United States. He was a graduate of The Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth and The National Defense University, Washington, D.C., Military Police and Civil Affairs Officer Schools, Fort Gordon, GA. He retired after 28 years of military service.
Attorney Slagg attended law school at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Missouri at Kansas City, receiving his LLB in 1959. He practiced law with the firm of Beamer, Slagg, & Thompson and its predecessors. He was a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan, Lawyers, Missouri and American Bar Associations. He was licensed to practice in all Missouri Courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Mr. Slagg married Kathleen Ann Garberson on January 10th, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mission, KS. She predeceased him on December 19th, 2001 with 36 years of marriage. Born of this marriage were two children, Shannon Patricia Slagg and Scott Dunbar Slagg.
Mr. Slagg served as President of the University of Wisconsin Greater Kansas City Alumni Association, Secretary and Legal Counsel for the Nall Hills Homes Association. He was a member of the Casa Loma Alumni Association and Brookside Country Club. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, The Retired Officers and Reserve Officers, and the Universities of Wisconsin and Missouri at Kansas City Alumni Associations.
Colonel Slagg enjoyed the military and nature at its finest. He liked all four season, especially winter. He was enamored with the clouds in the sky, birds, fields, forests, lakes, streams, oceans, and beaches. He spent considerable time dwelling upon all of these gifts of God. He took great pride in writing his own autobiography in 2004.
Survivors are his loving children, Shannon and Scott (Gail) Slagg and grandson, Colten Slagg, Overland Park; sisters, Janice Martin, Stoughton, WI, and Candace Wilke, Edgerton, WI and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-ceased by his wife; parents, Attorney Stanley W. and Helen Slagg; and brothers, Lowell, Bruce, and John Slagg, Edgerton, WI.
