Stella L. Neptune, age 95, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 6, at Roeland Park United Methodist Church, 5110 Cedar, Roeland Park, KS 66205, where she was a long standing member and an active participant in United Methodist Women. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30-10 a.m. on Monday prior to the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the church. Interment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Stella is remembered for her positive outlook on life, her love for family and friends, and her commitment to her church. She was born December 10, 1913, to Henry and Louise Ackerman in Somerton, Ohio, where she grew up on the family farm. Stella married George Neptune on April 16, 1938, and they made their home in Newark, Ohio. In 1945, they moved to Kansas City, where George was head of research at Gustin- Bacon Manufacturing Company and Stella maintained their home and raised their children. Later she worked in the cafeteria at Shawnee Mission West High School for 17 years until her retirement in 1984.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband, George, her twin sister, Trella, sisters Freda and Mary and brothers Sam, George and Clarence. She is survived by daughter Helen Yeomans and her husband Ron, Overland Park, Kan.; son Harold Neptune and his wife Carolyn, Prairie Village, Kan; four grandchildren, Jill Bicks, Elaine VanGorden, Steve Neptune, and Eric Yeomans, and eight great grandchildren, Julian and Gwenith Yeomans, Ellie and Jackson VanGorden, Will and Kate Bicks, Peter and Matthew Neptune.
