Steven James Borel, 71, Olathe, Kansas passed away Thursday October 17, 2019. Steven was born November 12, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Mark and Margaret (Gibson) Borel. Steven graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School and then went on to Pittsburg State University where he made many of his lifelong friends in the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He completed his education in 1972 from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law where he graduated with distinction. Steven was an attorney and enjoyed practicing law for 45 years before he retired in 2017. He was passionate about the law, and he always strived to live up to the ethical responsibilities of his profession. Steven found his work most rewarding when he had the chance to truly impact a client's life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection where he shared leadership of the cancer support group, was an active member of his Sunday School Class, and participated in a small group for many years. Through church associations, Steven gained many cherished friendships. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Margaret Borel. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Nancy; Three daughters: Lindsay Borel, Emily Potter (Mark), and Amy Troyer (Preston); Brothers: David Borel, Mike Borel (Kay) and Luke Borel; One sister, Debbie Borel; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be 12-1:00pm Friday October 25, 2019 in the main sanctuary at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm. A private family graveside service will take place at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in memory of Steven may be given to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, Kansas 66224.
