Steven Clyde Huey

d. June 28, 2024

Wichita, KS

Steven “Steve” Clyde Huey, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, sadly passed away on June 28, 2024, in Wichita, KS at the age of 71.

Steve was born into a U.S. Marine family at Camp Pendleton (San Diego County), California on August 20, 1952. He was the fifth of seven children of Col. Donald and Margaret Huey. Steve was a happy, bouncing California baby who bounced to Virginia and back, as his father finished up a long and distinguished career as a Marine pilot and leader. The family settled in Orange, California, where Steve had a happy childhood and grew into a 6’4’’ blonde Southern California natural athlete, football player, and occasional 60s rebel. But he was a Huey, and he was destined for great things.

Steve graduated from Orange High School in 1970 and found his purpose and career path at California State University, Long Beach. After working as an IBM office equipment installer during college (with a boost from his older brother, Don, who was an IBM executive) and graduating with an undergraduate Business degree, Steve began his career as an IBM salesman in California. He followed with an astonishing and rapid upward climb to IBM West Coast Salesman of the Year and IBM Western U.S. Regional Sales Manager. Soon, he evolved into a highly successful and talented U.S. and international senior marketing executive, working at Epson, Compaq/Hewlett Packard, Polycom, and a number of other innovative technology firms.

In addition to his passion for his career, Steve loved sports (most notably basketball, football, and Formula 1). While he was the VP of Worldwide Marketing at Compaq/HP, he would take his family to Houston Rockets basketball games where they would sit courtside. He also introduced his family to Charles Barkley and even had Charles talk to his daughter, Alley, on the phone. In addition to basketball games, he also took his son, Ryan, to other incredible sporting events such as the Indy 500 and the 1998 Super Bowl. His children will never forget those fun and cherished memories with him.

Steve was a very loving, funny, and supportive father who always gave the best advice. He also had the funniest obsession with meatloaf and ketchup. He always took such pride in teaching his children how to make the perfect meatloaf sandwich and that ketchup is truly the best condiment (especially when paired with Fritos).

In addition to being an amazing father, he was also a very loyal and kind friend that touched many lives. Steve was truly a light to everyone who knew him and had an infectious laugh that would immediately put a smile on your face. Words cannot express how much he will be missed, but there is comfort in knowing he is at peace.

He is survived by his children Alley Seasholtz, Ryan Huey and Megan Huey; siblings Kay Grable, Susan Labate and Michael Huey; daughter-in-law Amanda Huey; grandchildren Piper, Arden and Mason Seasholtz and Carter and Haley Huey; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Donald Huey and Margaret Huey and siblings Donna Beers, Lynne Culver and Donald Huey, Jr.

Steve’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
