Sue Kay (Wood) Knobbe, 82, of Overland Park, KS, left her physical life on May 1, 2016 to be with the Lord and loved ones after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by her family. Sue was preceded by her beloved husband, Larry Knobbe, her parents, Harry and Lena Wood, sisters, identical twin Sally Kohlhase, her husband Bruce, and sister, Joanne Alberding. A celebration of her life will be on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Church of the Resurrection in the Wesley Chapel. Sue was born in Wellington, KS, on February 24, 1934, and raised in Kiowa, Kansas.
Survivors include her sister, Judy (Dennis) Kale of Wichita, KS; nephews, Mark Kohlhase, his wife Becky and children Hal and Jane of Prairie Village, KS; Doug Kohlhase, his wife, Jennifer and sons, Isaac and Gus of Overland Park, KS and Eric Brown and his wife Emily and daughters, Ellie and Emma of Redlands, CA; nieces, Amy Hampton, her husband Mike and daughter Hailey of Wichita, KS, Jackie Perkins, her husband Robert of Bellevue, NE, Jerri Saunders, her husband Bill of Allen, TX, Janet Dunn of Oak Point, TX and Jennifer Turner, her husband David of Howe, TX.
Sue lived a full and vibrant life. Her adventures included working at Yellowstone National Park and for the FBI in Washington, DC, and Denver, CO. Sue found her way back to Kansas City and retired from Allied Bendix Corp (now Honeywell) after 30 years of service. Her warm smile and kind eyes greeted friends, family, and strangers alike, especially as she walked her dogs every day and volunteered more than 4,000 hours at St. Joseph Hospital. Sue was also active with the African Violet Society of Kansas City and won many awards for her violets. Her devotion to God and her church were very special to her.
The family suggests contributions be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association to aid in research of this disease.
