Susan Slater Amrhein quietly passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2008, losing her courageous fight against breast cancer. Susan was born on January 24, 1950 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She came to Kansas City with her parents in 1952. Susan was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend. Susan was married 27 years to her loving husband, Gene, who was by her side when she went home. Together they enjoyed traveling, spending time with grandchildren, reading and solving crossword puzzles. Also, she was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and had a love for cows, and was continually adding to her collection.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Slater. Susan is survived by her husband, two daughters, Robin Berthold and husband Scott, Jennifer Mendez; grandchildren, Robert and Christina Mendez, Sage and Halyn Massey and Brian Berthold; parents, Eugene and Audine Slater; brothers, Don and Jonathan Slater and sister, Shelly Bradberry. Susan leaves behind a multitude of family and friends to remember her and to celebrate her life.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 A.M. Saturday, April 12 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Gathering of friends will be from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M., prior to the service. Private inurnment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS. Susan requested, in lieu of flowers, family and friends would make a memorial contribution in her name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, www.komen.org
