Susan Boland

June 16, 1940 — February 21, 2014

Susan D. Boland of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on February 21, 2014 at the age of seventy three. In her mid-sixties, Sue was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia, a form of dementia with no treatment or cure. She was given loving care by her family and the professionals at The Aberdeen Village of Olathe, KS.

Susan was born on June 16th, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas and Mildred Delanty. Susan spent her childhood in multiple locations including Saint Paul, MN, Indianapolis, IN, Spokane, WA, Shorewood and Hales Corners, WI. Susan attended Shorewood high school and graduated from Greendale High in Greendale, WI in 1958. She moved to Overland Park, Kansas with her first husband Richard Walkowiak and their children in 1966.

Possessed with a friendly and gregarious personality, "Sue" was well known and loved by her coworkers and the customers who would loyally follow her wherever she worked during her career in the food service business. In the 70's and 80's she spent many years working as a waitress at the Ramada Inn on 87th Street in Overland Park. In the later 80's through 2005. she worked serving and managing Café's at Dahl's and Hy-Vee grocery stores, also in Overland Park. She touched so many people through her years of service waiting on and serving people, and she loved every minute of it. What made her happy was taking care of people, whether it was her customers or her family.

Susan is survived by her current husband Michael Boland Jr., of Olathe; her sister-in-law, Mary Langford; her four children, Richard Walkowiak of Olathe, Steven Walkowiak of Hoboken, NJ, Tracy Crosby of Edwardsville, KS, Robert Walkowiak of Overland Park, KS; and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Sharon Delanty of Atlanta, GA; Susan is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family of Susan Boland would like to gratefully acknowledge the love and care provided to her by Aberdeen Village and Grace Hospice of Olathe, Kansas.
