Sydney H. Pendleton, 79, passed away February 15, 2019. She was born in 1939 and was the oldest of four children. She was smart, funny, serious, brave, thoughtful, helpful and kind. At 16 she was accepted into a college program at Wellesley for gifted high school students. She dropped out to help her mother, who was laid up with arthritis. Next she got her GED in order to be accepted into Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from there, then got a BS in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. Later she earned a M.Ed., Ed.D. Nursing Research, Anthropology from Columbia University, where she studied with world renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead, a friend of her grandmother Marguerite Pendleton. Syd was a nurse, taught nursing and later manned a nurse hotline.
Wanting a family, she adopted three daughters: Jennifer Stipe, Elizabeth Pendleton, and Beverly Hill.
Later in life Sydney, wanted to follow in her father's footsteps as an Episcopal Priest and studied at Saint Paul School of Theology. She made it her mission to lead morning prayer services and preach sermons to small congregations. She took writing sermons very seriously, working hard to get them just right.
Sydney loved music and was excited to join the band through St Peter’s Episcopal church, The Quick & the Dead, a Christian praise or Christian rock band. They performed all over where people could use some cheering up.
Sydney Pendleton was a wonderful woman who gave her all to everyone with no expectation to receive anything in return. Although she had her own challenges, she made an effort to help others. She had a big heart.
She is survived by: brother Dudley Pendleton, sister Page Keller, brother Richard Pendleton, and her three daughters.
