Sylvia Renner Hawk, resident of Leawood, Kansas for 34 years, daughter of Clifford and Ena Renner, was born in Great Bend, Kansas, on April 9, 1938.
She attended elementary school in Larned and Great Bend, Kansas, in a one room school house in Rush County and high school in LaCrosse, Kansas.
Sylvia earned the Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Emporia State University and the Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota. She was a specialist in the field of remedial reading and special learning disabilities. She taught and directed programs for students with learning difficulties in the public schools of Madison, Kansas, Chicago, Illinois and Minneapolis, Minnesota and at the University of Chicago Laboratory School. She terminated her professional career to raise a family.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parent. She is survived by her husband, Richard C. Hawk, and two older children: Chad Hawk, Amy Hawk and Katira Hawk (daughter and granddaughter), all of Leawood, and two grandsons, Bryon and Carson. Also two brothers and one sister: Melvin Renner of Leawood, Marvin Renner of Firth, Nebraska and Sheila Wawrzaszek of Wichita.
Services for Sylvia will be held at 9AM on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas 66210.
