SYLVIA (SIB) RUTH WALTON
Sylvia (Sib) Ruth Walton, age 78, of Overland Park, KS died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave., Overland Park, KS 66207. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery, Prairie Village, KS. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 9th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to Bethany Lutheran Church.
Sib was born on August 28, 1931 in Kirkwood, MO. She was a graduate of Kirkwood High School in Missouri. She attended Southeast Missouri State University. Sib was employed by Color Art in St. Louis as a Graphic Artist. She moved to Overland Park in 1964 and adopted two children, Jeff and Laura. In the late 1970’s, she was employed by Tuesday Morning Inc. where she worked for over 25 years, until she retired in 2007. In 2007, Sib moved to the Grand Court in Overland Park, where she resided until her death. Sib was active in her church, Bethany Lutheran Church, in the Stephen Ministry, Rebekah Circle, VBS, the Church Day School, the Altar Guild and she was the candle maker from 1975-1990. Sib was fond of traveling and kept in touch with her high school friends regularly in her beloved Kirkwood, MO. She was a vibrant member of the community and a friend to all she met wherever she went.
Sib was preceded in death by her husband, William Dale Walton. She is survived by her daughter, Laura L. Walton; granddaughter, Katlin Walton; son, Jeff Walton and his wife Kim; grandchildren, Cole and Pieper Walton; and two sisters, Arlette Bopp and Margorie Kempf.
