Terry R. Stanton, D.C., passed away on May 11, 2016 at the age of 69. He was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. Terry was the son of Robert and Evelyn Stanton. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a graduate of Washington High School and Cleveland Chiropractic College. Terry was a Martial Arts Master, who held Black Belt Ranks in several forms of the arts including Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Iaido, Aiki Jujitsu and Kung Fu. He was the founder of Shinki Ryu Jujitsu. He began his martial arts training early in life and started Jayhawk Academy while still in high school. It was a club in his parents basement at first then moved to 51st and Leavenworth Road. Eventually, the name was changed to Professional Self Defense.
Terry was a Mason for 45 years as well as a member of the AMORC (Rosicrucian Order) out of San Jose, California.
Terry enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Japan to enhance his knowledge and practice of the martial arts. He enjoyed spending time with his family and long vacations with his wife after the kids moved out.
Terry is preceded in death by both of his parents and 2 grandsons, Colin and Logan. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna, his Daughter Lisa and his son David. He has 5 grandchildren, Tyler, Evelyn, Kaitlyn, Skylar and Briley. He will be missed by all.
Terry’s wish was to be cremated and not to have a memorial service. There will be a Celebration of Life later for anyone who wishes to attend.
