Mrs. Thelma Brown

Thelma Lucille Pulcher Brown, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on July 14, 2013 at her home in Kansas City, MO.

She was born in East Carondelet, IL on July 31, 1929, the first born child of Sheridan and Lucille Pulcher. Thelma graduated from Dupo High School in Dupo, IL and received an Associates degree from El Dorado Junior College in El Dorado, KS. She married James Alson Brown on January 29, 1949.

Thelma devoted her life to her family and church. She and Jim moved to Overland Park, KS in 1969 where she became an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, including the women's organization, blanket and braille workshops, and volunteer work at Good Shepherd Mission. As a travel agent during the 1980's, she hosted church groups on fun-filled cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. After moving to Kansas City, MO in 2010, she and Jim joined King of Kings Lutheran Church in Kansas City North.

Thelma was predeceased by her parents and her brother Louis Pulcher. She is survived by her husband James Alson Brown, of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Debbie Ellison (Steve) of Kansas City, MO; son, Phillip Brown (Paula) of Gardner, KS; grandson Eric Ellison of Kansas City, MO, granddaughter Erin Ellison Todd (Jimmie), great-granddaughter Olivia Todd of Prairie Village, KS; and grandsons William and Lucas Brown of Gardner, KS. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Williams (Ray), sister-in-law Judy Pulcher, and numerous nieces and nephews.

All services will be held July 23, 2013. Visitation 10:00 am and Memorial Service 11:00 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 91st and Lamar, Overland Park, KS. A luncheon will be served at the church after the service. She will be buried at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, 23215 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, KS.

Thelma has requested that memorial gifts be directed to the Good Shepherd Mission, American Cancer Society, or NorthCare Hospice.

The family extends our sincere gratitude to Reverend Frank Greene of King of Kings Lutheran Church, NorthCare Hospice, and the caregivers who provided her with exceptional, loving care during her final weeks on earth.
