Theodore Marcus, 64, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 10, 2008. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 16th, at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.
Ted was born on November 5, 1944, in the Bronx, NY, to Milton and Nettie Marcus. After attending Taft High School, he earned a Bachelor’s degree from City College of New York and a Masters of Fine Arts/Media at Hunter College. He taught in the New York City Public Schools and then entered the publishing world with Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, NY. He later went to work for Simon & Schuster in NY, Creative Homeowner Press in NJ, and then moved his family to the Kansas City area in 1996 to become a Vice President for Intertec Publishers (now Primedia Corp). He then went into business for himself as a publishing consultant until May, 2002.
Ted will be dearly missed by his wife, Laura; sons Jay and Nate; brother Steven; nephew Ari, and niece Belinda; as well as his many family members, friends and colleagues both near and far. His passion for learning new things, his pride in his sons, and his sense of humor will be remembered by them all.
