On July 17, 2015, the world lost an extraordinary man with a kind, caring soul as Tom Bright went to be with his Lord at the age of 77. Tom, loving husband of Sue Bright, passed away peacefully at the Park Meadows Memory Care facility in Overland Park, KS due to complications from a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Born in Chicago in 1937, Tom was the oldest son of the late Harold and Margaret Bright. He was a fun loving, inquisitive and adventurous boy – often getting into mischief with his younger brothers. After graduating from York High School, where he was a standout football player and track star, Tom attended Purdue University, graduating with an Engineering Degree. He went on to have a very successful and rewarding career in engineering, holding various positions, including management.
However, Tom’s true passion was spending time with his children. He was always there for them, no matter what, never missing one of their sporting events and always making time to listen, mentor and support them. He led by example, by doing everything to the best of his ability, believing anything less was a waste of time and talent. A true gentleman in every sense of the word, Tom was one of the most chivalrous and respectful people around. He was committed to passing these traits along to his children.
Tom and Sue were married for 17 loving years. He enjoyed life on every level with his wife and best friend. Some of his fondest stories were of their travels together, especially those to Lake Tahoe. Tom was a strong, optimistic, confident and caring man with a wonderful, child-like sense of humor, who found great joy in making those around him happy. His family, friends and the people’s lives he touched will be forever blessed.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; his brother Jerry, his wife Jean; his sister in-law, Julie; Tom’s four children; nine grandchildren and two stepsons. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ted.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31 at 10:00am at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. In lieu of flowers the family would ask you to consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Special thanks to the caring staff at Park Meadows and all of those who kept Tom in your thoughts and prayers.
Tom will most definitely be missed but will live in our hearts forever.
