Thomas John Butkus, 63, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on February 4th, 2019, after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). A visitation to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, February 7th, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Johnson County Funeral Chapel 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. Tom will be then transported to Morrison, IL for a visitation on Saturday, February 9th, 2019, from 10-11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic 13320 Garden Plain Rd, Morrison, IL, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM at the church. Graveside service will follow at 12 PM at Grove Hill Cemetery 400 E High St, Morrison, IL. The family will host a reception at 12:30 PM, back at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Tom was born on September 22nd, 1955 in Morrison, IL. He attended Morrison High School and earned a bachelor degree in finance from the University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana, IL. He then earned his master of business degree at Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL.
Tom married his high school sweetheart, Annette Book, in 1977. They lived 41 wonderful years together. His banking career took him to Peoria, IL, then to Dallas, TX, and then to the Kansas City area where spent the last 30 years.
He was a dedicated, loving father to his two daughters, Katherine and Susan. He truly lived for his children and selflessly wanted the best for them. He loved organizing family events, to Estes Park, CO, for more than 25 years, to carry on the tradition his father set in place. His favorite past time was spending time with those that he loved and cherished most.
Tom is survived by his wife, Annette; children, Katherine Butkus of Denver, CO and Susan Butkus of Overland Park, KS; mother Evelyn Butkus; two sisters, Elizabeth Wahl (Greg), Mary Butkus (Joan); and three brothers, Michael (Kelly), Andrew (Debbie), and John Jr (Jenny); and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father John Butkus Sr.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sisters Servants of Mary of Kansas City, KS and Good Shepherd Hospice of Lenexa, KS.
