Thomas Wayne Myers
Thomas was born June 5th, 1933 in Albany, New York to Joseph and Delores Myers, both who preceded him in death. He attended Christian Brothers Academy from 1945 to 1950. Thomas enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1950; he served 2 years in the U.S. as a cook and with the military police.
He attended Hudson Valley Technical Institute and received an AAS in electrical technology in 1956. From that time until he retired he worked as a sales engineer, servicing locomotives throughout the United States.
His crowning achievement was participating in the adoption of his two granddaughters from China. He leaves behind his wife Sharon, daughter Deborah K. Gray and husband H. James Gray, granddaughters LeeAnn Paige and Chynna Lynn Gray. He also leaves brothers Dr. Joseph Myers and John Ranalli.
Tom loved to golf, and did so at every opportunity. He also loved to watch Raider Football. Thomas loved to watch LeeAnn perform in the high school band at football and basketball games and to attend Chynna's violin concerts.
Tom had a rich full life, traveling to Alaska on a inside passage cruise, Paris, France, Germany, Australia, Hawaii as well as China to adopt LeeAnn. He loved parties and we had many of them, but his true joy was spending time with his granddaughters.
I am happy to report that Tom received the Lord as his personal savior this year.
The family wishes to thank especially Major Mark Martsolf, who was with Tom every step of his final journey. Thanks to the family and friends of the Salvation Army as well as the doctors and nurses of Overland Park Regional Hospital. Thanks to the Kansas City Hospice House.
A visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be at 12:30 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2012, also at the chapel. Interment will take place in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Donations can be made to The Salvation Army in Tom's memory.
To Tom,
I didn't know that love like ours
Was possible today
I thought love flickered, flamed
And died
And faded fast away.
I didn't know two arms that hold
Could shelter one from pain
I didn't know a loving heart
Could make life good again.
That day by day, when life gets rough,
O stronger bond could grow
And two who love could love yet more.
These things I didn't know,
But you have taught the lesson well
And I will not forget.
And when eternity draws near
I'll love you stronger yet.
And hand in hand, and heart to heart
We'll travel this life through
And all the love you gave to me
I'll give right back to you.
Sharon
