Vaunda Mae Burgess, 80 of Mercedes, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2016.

Vaunda was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 3, 1936. She grew up and lived in Shawnee, Kansas. In 1976, she and her husband Gene Burgess moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. In 1997 they retired at Llano Grande Resort in Mercedes, Texas.
Vaunda LOVED spending time with her family and friends. She took pride in her independence and understood what it truly meant to work hard. She enjoyed her hobbies such as cards, bingo, gambling, cake decorating, arts and crafts, traveling and reading. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 20 years.
Vaunda was predeceased by her parents Francis Walker and Bonnie Mae Ladd, her loving Husband Nova Gene Burgess, Daughter Toni Jean Massey, Daughter Sherry Ann Harrell, Son John Francis Burgess and her Sister Patricia Delores Kilbride.
She is survived by her Sister Caroline Frances Shapley, Daughter Cathy Lynn Smith and husband Doug, Son Donald Mark Massey and wife Rita. She leaves behind 7 Grandchildren, Michelle Lynn Nolan, Angelica Marie Poor, Jennifer Elizabeth Miller, Christy Rochelle Kidd, Mark Tyler Massey, Jeffrey Adam Hart Smith and Jessica Danielle Barnes. She also leaves behind 8 Great Grandchildren, Matthew Lee Littlejohn, Ryan Jacob Russell, Alissa Star Jordon, Kyle Nathaniel Russell, Zackery Shawn Jordon, Alexis Hart Miller, Lilly Ann Barnes, Bailey Christine Barnes, and the rest of her relatives and friends.
