Velma Elizabeth (Emry) Bangs, age 93, of Lenexa, Kan., died Tuesday evening, December 29, 2009, at Lakeview Village Care Center in Lenexa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Family will receive friends one hour before the service on Monday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Old Mission Methodist Church in c/o the funeral home. Billie was born on January 12, 1916, in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Hugh and Martha Elizabeth (Knight) Emry. She graduated high school and later moved to Kansas City, where she worked at B&G Hosiery. Billie married Lloyd E. Bangs of Kansas City, Mo., on September 5, 1936. She was a member of the Old Mission Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd, in 1982 after 45 years of marriage, and sisters Leighfern Buckles, Mildred Goodnough, and Arlene Payne. Survivors include her children, Gregory D. Bangs (Nicki Gustin) of Overland Park, Kan., and Debra C. Broughton (John Evanko) of Springfield, Va.; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
