Velmeta Hillers

Velmeta Mae Hillers, daughter of Cleo and Clara Miller was born on May 7, 1939 in Kansas City, KS. She passed on April 2, 2008 at KC Hospice House.

Velmeta attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and received her Associates Degree in Secretarial Science. Velmeta married Duane Hillers on December 17, 1960.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years; three daughters, Sherry Paarman, Marcy Hillers and Melanie Baker and her husband Brian. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Stephanie Downey, Ashley Carcopa and her husband Jake and Cammeo Paarman and one great grandson, Cayden Carcopa. She is also survived by her sister; Melba Walker and her husband Gary; a sister-in-law, Drenda Miller; a son-in-law, Dennis Paarman; her aunt and uncle, Betty and Orian Decker and many nieces and nephews and a host of church family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edwin Miller and a niece, Patty Miller.

Velmeta worked in the Real Estate and Mortgage Banking business. She was also an accomplished Pianist and Organist and played in many congregations in the Kansas City area in the Community of Christ Church. She also served as an ordained Elder in her home congregation, the Bethel Congregation in Kansas City, KS. Her passion was her family and her church family. She was quiet, but ministered to all around her even to her last breath. She suffered many debilitating illnesses, but never complained.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to the Bethel Congregation, 8510 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, KS 66109 or Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.

Cremation will follow death and a Celebration Memorial Service will be held at the Bethel Congregation, 8510 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, KS on Tuesday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be at Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens.
