Vera Evelyn (Kipper) Hicks, 98, passed away April 10, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, 66210. A visitation will be held an hour prior. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kimberling City United Methodist Church, PO Box 10 / 57 Kimberling City, MO, 65686, Or John Knox Village Hospice House.
Vera was born and raised in Oklahoma where she married J.B. Hicks in 1931; in later years they moved closer to family in Missouri where Vera became a secretary for Old American Insurance Company for 25 years. After retirement Vera enjoyed painting and woodcarving, she was known to write and tell great stories, as well as telling jokes. Vera was also a member of Kimberling City UMC for many years.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and sisters and one grandchild. Survivors include daughter, Chris Meyer; sister, Lillian Stansbury; grandchildren, James Meyer, Sandy Birch-Jones, Tane Lee; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
