Vera K. Zumbehl died on December 20, 2009, at Somerset Health Center at Claridge Court in Prairie Village. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 26, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar, Overland Park, Kan. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation of Kansas c/o Bethany Lutheran Church. Vera was born to William and Frieda Karsten on February 14, 1917, in Sarcoxie, Mo. She grew up in Alma, Mo., and graduated from Alma High School. She then attended Chilicothe Business School. After graduation from business school, she moved to Kansas City and worked for Powers Regulator Company. On December 14, 1940, Vera married her childhood sweetheart, Lambert Zumbehl. They were married 65 years. He preceded her in death in 2006. Vera was an accomplished seamstress and spent many hours lovingly sewing clothing, draperies, quilts and beautiful Christmas stockings. She was also a bookkeeper. In 1947, she assumed responsibility as bookkeeper for her husband's new business, Manufacturers Sales Company, and she continued as the bookkeeper for that company and its successor, Triangles Sales Company. She retired in 1981. Vera's health declined after her husband's death, but prior to that she was active in her church. She volunteered in the church office and worked on the blanket workshop committee. She was always available to help with sewing projects around the church. Vera is survived by her son Glenn and his wife Cathy. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Anne Talley (Matt) and Sarah.
