Victor Brzozowski passed away on September 19th, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Victor was born September 20th, 1925 in Blissville, Queens, New York. He was the son of Polish immigrants, Frank and Victoria Brzozowski. He graduated Brooklyn Tech and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he studied to be an engineer. His education was cut short when he joined the Merchant Marines as a Radio Communications Officer during WWII. During his military duty he was instructed by the ship's captain to assist the medical staff with the wounded. He often said he'd missed his calling to be a doctor. After his honorable discharge he began his long aviation career with TWA which took him to nearly every continent and numerous countries. With TWA, he served as the Flight Radio Operator on various aircraft and flew on the Constellation's maiden voyage between New York and Cairo. He married Elsa, the love of his life, in Cairo, Egypt in 1952 and they would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this coming January. Vic and Elsa lived in and traveled to various countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. They finally settled in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1952 where they help build a close, expatriate community with many lifelong friends. They were amongst the early organizers of PCS (Parents Cooperative School), which the children of many Kansas City TWA families attended. His love of golf led him to become the chairman of the Dunes Club golf course located on the American Embassy grounds in Jeddah. His perpetual humor and understanding of the Middle East made him a good friend to several American ambassadors. Vic eventually went on to play an important role in helping the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia develop their Civil Aviation infrastructure. He retired from Saudi Arabian Airlines after 31 years and settled in Kansas City in 1983, where many of their lifelong friends live.
Vic is survived by his wife Elsa, sons Charles (Susan), Frank, and Brian (Katherine), and is now reunited with his deceased son Glenn. He is also survived by his brother Joseph, sister Jane, grandsons Dana, Victor Lee, Marek, Johnathan, Peter, Arik, Alex, and granddaughters Barbara and Olivia; daughter in law, Perri Brzozowski as well as many nieces and nephews.
Vic touched the lives of many people and his sense of humor was felt even by the hospital staff that cared for him in his last days. His passing marks the end of an era rich in world history and deep friendships. His love of life, family, friends, storytelling, golf, a good cigar, and fine Bourbon made him what he is and will remain forever in everyone's hearts and memories.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 Church of the Holy Cross Catholic Parish, 8311 W. 93rd St, Overland Park, KS 66212. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
The family is deeply grateful to the Kansas City Hospice for making his final passage a peaceful one. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to Kansas City Hospice.
