Vida Lucille Hunter was born April 28, 1944 in Great Bend, Kansas to Thomas Powell and Ruth (Martee) Powell. She was the 4th child in a family of 8 children. Her father was something of a wanderer and often left for years at a time leaving his family uncared for. They also moved quite frequently when the father, a farm laborer, changed jobs so she lived many different places in Kansas and Missouri while growing up. They finally settled in Pittsburg, Kansas minus the father.
Vida 1st worked for a carpeting store keeping their financial records and was there for several years before moving to Kansas City where she got a job in the accounting department at Children’s Mercy Hospital where she stayed until retirement.
Although never able to have children of her own she often cared for her younger brothers and many nieces and nephews. In 1986 she met John Hunter and they were married March 3, 1989. Together they made a good life and comfortable home.
She passed away peacefully in her bed at home during the early hours of April 16, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Harry, Terry and Tom, 2 sisters Elda and Helen and 1 stepdaughter Angela (Hunter) Babb. She is survived by her husband John, 1 brother Jerry, 1 sister Darlene Dringman and 1 stepdaughter Mary Hunter as well as a number of step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves an empty spot in our lives that will never be filled.
