Vidy Metsker

Vidy Metsker, 97, of Overland Park passed from this life into her eternal reward on January 11, 2021, surrounded by many of those who deeply love her.

Vidy was born Georgia Elvira Hughes December 23, 1923, in Kansas City, Missouri to Paul and Lucille Hughes.

A lifelong resident of Greater Kansas City, Vidy graduated from Rosedale High School.

“Sunday evening, February 27, 1938, I asked Jesus to come into my heart and forgive my sin,” wrote Vidy. Her life was transformed; thus the assurance that she is in heaven today.

On June 26, 1943, Vidy married Al Metsker whom she met at church and together they enjoyed nearly 50 years.

Al and Vidy founded Kansas City Youth For Christ one week before their wedding. She tirelessly worked alongside Al in birthing this dynamic organization; Saturday night YFC Rallies, Bible Clubs, Bible Quizzing, Super Rallies, Circle C and L Bar C Camps, TV50, the LIGHT House and so much more.

Vidy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Paul Tucker Hughes and Earl Lee Hughes, and her sister Olive Elizabeth Pappas. She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Dr. Donald and Martha Philgreen, David and Marilyn Lewis, and Ronnie and Susan Metsker, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild to be born in June.

Vidy’s driving passion was to win souls to Jesus and that was her focus to her dying breath. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in her memory to persons or organizations who are bringing people to Jesus Christ
