Vincent Thomas Brown, 85, Overland Park, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007.
Mr. Brown was born July 28th, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri. He worked at the Kansas City Star as a printer for 54 years. He began working at age 16. His skill soon turned him into one of the favorite make-up men at The Star, often chosen by editors to lay-out special articles. After Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Navy. He re-enlisted during the Korean War. He served on many ships. He was aboard the Missouri when the treaty ending WW II was signed. He began his family shortly after finishing his service and eventually ended up with three sons. He served as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 94 and Post Leader for Explorer Post 2094 at Overland Park Presbyterian Church. In that capacity, he made two trips to Philmont Scout Ranch to go on the trail with his sons. He relished the time he was able to spend with his sons. During a summer vacation he found, and fell in love with, the area of Eagle Nest, NM. He bought property and set out to build a cabin. With the aide of his entire family, he built a small cabin. Over the years, the cabin was expanded...always with the work being done by himself and by hand. He loved working with his hands. He helped on several Habitat for Humanity houses in the Kansas City area. He cherished the many hours he spent as a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church, first at Overland Park then, more recently, Ward Parkway.
He was preceded in death by; his eldest son, Lon Thomas Brown. His survivors include; his wife of 57 years, Virginia Brown and his two sons, Rand L. and Kim L.
