Virgil Lee Whaley, 76, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2010. Born July 27, 1933 to Allene and Wilburn Whaley, in Collinsville, IL. He married Norma Jean Anderson in 1954. He proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years working as a maintenance crewman for war ships. Virgil was a long time employee of Purina Mills in Richmond, IN. Upon retiring in 1999, he and Norma moved to Overland Park, KS. He will be remembered for his great fishing stories, his calm and content demeanor, and most of all his love and devotion to his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Norma, daughter Cindi and her husband, Robert Wilson, grandchildren Janet and Mike, and great grandson Mark (all of Overland Park, KS) A private burial will be at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A memorial celebration will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday February 6, 2010 at Good Samaritan Society (20705 W. 151st St., Olathe, KS 66061) where he was a resident for the past 2 years.
