Virginia Hanson

February 25, 1922 — December 22, 2015

Virginia LaVaughn (Fulwiler) Hanson, 93, died Tuesday Dec. 22, 2015 at her son’s home in Silverthorne, CO where she had lived the past 2 years.  Visitation will be at 1pm Saturday January 2, 2016 at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS, with services commencing at 1:45.  Burial will immediately follow.

LaVaughn was born Feb. 25, 1922 in Lawton, KS. to Joe Fulwiler and Pearl (Crowell) Fulwiler. She was raised in Riverton, KS. attended Riverton High School, graduating in 1939.  She married Louis Herbert Hanson of Lenexa, KS. on Sep. 16, 1945 at the Lenexa United Methodist Church. He passed away in 2008 after 63 years of marriage. Herb and LaVaughn  raised two children in Shawnee Mission; Jim (1947) and Carol (1950- 2000).  From 1977 to 2013 they lived in Lenexa.

Herb and LaVaughn enjoyed square dancing with the Top Railers square dance club for more than 40 years.  They were members of Old Mission United Methodist Church, Fairway, and the Lenexa United Methodist Church.  She worked for Leland Mast Advertising for 20+ years, retiring in 1986.

LaVaughn was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Virginia Rasho, her husband, Louis Herbert Hanson and her sisters, Dolorise Hearrell and Wanda Havens..  Surviving her are son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Joanne Hanson, Silverthorne, CO.; son-in-law Al Rasho of Madison, WI, Carol’s daughter Eva Rasho, Boston, MA; grandson Geoff Hanson, Lenexa; granddaughter and husband Meredith and Jason Adams, Idaho Springs, CO.; great-grandchildren Allyssa Hanson, Lenexa; Zackary Hanson, Tonganoxie and their mother, Kim Hanson, also of Tonganoxie; and great-granddaughters Tracy Bates and Jessica Bates, both of Florida

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of LaVaughn and Herb’s daughter, Carol Hanson Rasho.
