Virginia L. Hicks was born April 16, 1920. She passed away peacefully May 18, 2008 with her family at her side.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 21 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. with Rosary Recitation at 7:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Cure? of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Catholic Charities.
Virginia was born to Elza and Pauline Wiley in Kansas City, Kansas. She was married to Robert L. Hicks, Sr. for 51 wonderful years. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; Robert and Judy, Leawood, KS, Lawrence and Shirley, Oklahoma City, OK and Kevin and Sue, Leawood, KS. She is survived by nine grandchildren; Nancy Hesse, Robbie, Travis, Jason, Lance, Ashley, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Carly Hicks. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren; Amber, Alyssa, Jared, Maggie, Ryan, Boone, Justin, Courtney, Kate and Cody Hicks and Xen Hesse. Virginia, the fifth of ten children, is also survived by one sister; Norma Babcock of Kansas City.
After the death of her husband, Virginia began her volunteer life serving Overland Park Regional Medical Center for 15 years.
Virginia will be remembered as the matriarch of her family. She fostered the values of love, family, faith and hard work by her example. She was a loving and caring Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who will be missed by family and friends.
