Virginia Porter

August 25, 1935 — August 25, 2011

Virginia Lee Porter, 76, Overland Park, KS, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at her home. She was born on February 23, 1935 in Blackwell, OK, the daughter of Fern Elizabeth (Whitney) and Earl Wilson Davis. Virginia will be remembered for always being a compassionate and loving person. Her creativity, wittiness, and joking nature are something that will be greatly missed. When her children were growing up, Virginia would often welcome their friends in to the house and made them always feel comfortable. Virginia's greatest love that she had was for her children and her grandchildren. Through Virginia's entire battle with cancer, she never gave up and never lost her sense of humor. Survivors include her son, Phil Porter; daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Parker (Michael VanZutphen) and Sally (David) Hoeven; grandchildren: Jack, Julie, Cortney Hahn, Tyler Parker, Addison VanZutphen, Charlie, Robert, Craig, Scott, and Hayden Hoeven; great grandchildren: Parker, Preston, Payton, and Porter Hahn; sister, Mary (Milton) Stewart; brothers, Bob (Marge) Davis, Oren (John) Davis, and Larry Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph, in 2004; two sisters, Juanita and Barbara; and two brothers, Russell and Dale. The entire Porter family would like to extend a huge thanks to KC Hospice and to Dr. Mark Myron and his staff. Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Indian Heights United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at a later date in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, KCMO 64105 or to Kansas City Hospice, 10100 W. 87th St., Suite 100, Overland Park, KS 66212.
