Virlea Swearngain Porter, 90 passed away on June 9, 2008, at her daughter?s home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Marvin Porter and daughter Ann Brown. Virlea was born in Marceline, Mo., to Willard and Anna Swearngain. She graduated from Marceline High School in Marceline, Mo. Virlea lived in Tarkio, Mo., for 44 years before coming to live with her daughte4r. She was a member of Tarkio United Methodist Church.
Ms. Porter was a homemaker. Most of her life was about her husband, children and grandchildren, and she would have it no other way. She loved taking care of her family. Virlea loved gardening, playing bridge, cooking and sewing. It was nothing for Virlea to cut out dress patterns for her daughters at night and have dresses ready for them in the morning to wear to school. She had boundless energy. Her sense of humor kept everyone laughing.
Virlea leaves behind her daughter Jane Bennett, son Phil Porter and daughter-in-law, Jean Porter, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family is most grateful for the gentle, loving care given by Fran Morris in the last year of Virlea?s Life. During this time Fran became Virlea?s guardian angel.
Services will be at the D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.
