Walburga Young

February 10, 1926 — February 8, 2012

Another Angel, Wally Young, has arrived in heaven. She passed February 8, 2012 surrounded by family after a brief illness. Wally was born on February 10, 1926 in Sopot, Poland and moved to Vienna, Austria during WWII. In 1952, Wally, a war bride, came to America. She spoke Polish, German and English fluently with a beautiful European accent that everyone loved.

Being educated as an esthetician in Vienna made it a likely choice to become a cosmetologist in America for the next 26 years. She worked at Pierre's on the Plaza, Mr. Johns and The Jones Store in Overland Park.

Wally leaves five children, Ernestine (Joseph) Gerdes, Velina (Dick) Mais, Diana Henry, Rob (Becky) Young and Kurt (Cathy) Young. She was a proud grandmother of twelve and a great-grandmother of nine. Wally is survived by her brothers, Heinz (Nilda) Lehmann of Mobile, Al and Paul (Magda) Lehmann of Wuppertal, Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Young. Our sincere Thanks to the staff of Evergreen Community of Johnson County for their kindness, caring, and friendship. Services will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 at 12:00 PM, with visitation at 11:00 AM. In honor of Walburga's life, donations may be made to KU Endowment - Alzheimer's Disease Center http://www.kualzheimers.org/alzheimers-disease-center/support-the-ku-adc/donate-.html.
