Walter Don Copp, 81, of Overland Park, passed away Wednesday, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Nashville, TN February 3rd, 1933, the only child of Annie and Walter Copp. Don graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1951 and attended Vanderbilt University for three years. He continued his schooling at University of California, Santa Barbara and University of Miami (Florida) where he received a B.S. in History in1956.
In 1954 Don married Jean Whelen and had four children together. He was married to his second wife Adair Norris in 1970 until her death in 1994.
During his career, Don owned Draughons Business Colleges in Jackson, MS; Louisville, KY; and Atlanta, GA. After moving to Santa Barbara, CA, he worked in sales for a sporting goods company. Don then became involved in the transportation industry where he remained for the balance of his career.
Don was a member of the Shriners and attended the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.
Don is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Cliff and Geneve Copp, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Nikki Copp, daughter and son-in-law Donna and Brad Gerstner, and son Devon Copp, his stepdaughter and son-in-law Deb and Ralph Schmadeke. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepson Mike Norris.
