Walter A. Petring, age 85, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. He was born on June 6, 1925, in Nebraska City, NE. He spent 3 years in the US Army Corps of Engineers. After World War II, he attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha and graduated from Iowa State University followed by the St. Louis University School of Law in 1957. Walt worked for Emerson Electric in St. Louis and retired from McDonnell-Douglas in 1987. He was an active member of the St. Louis chapter of the Missouri Pilots Association and loved to fly airplanes. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley in Stanley, KS. Walt is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Petring; daughter, Laurie and her husband Chuck Jarrett; grandchildren, Stacey and Daniel Jarrett; brothers, Jim (Pat) Petring, of Mission Viejo, CA, Marsh (Elva) Petring, of Ft. Collins, CO, and Jack (Gail) Petring, of Van Nuys, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 4 p.m., Sunday, April 3, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, April 3, at the funeral home. Burial will be held Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11 a.m., at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
